Pro Models Volumes: Romain Desgranges' Expertise for Your Routesetting
by Thomas Gerfault
on Apr 05 2022
When one of the greatest climbers in French climbing history puts his experience into design, the result can only be exceptional. Discover the story of the "Momodules", a series of 31 wooden volumes designed by and for those who live for precision.
Born from a close collaboration with Romain Desgranges, this range is more than just a set of volumes: it's a teaching and technical tool for pushing the limits of modern routesetting.
31 volumes, thousands of possible combinations
The idea behind the Pro Models was simple but ambitious: create a coherent family of volumes able to radically transform a wall's profile. With 31 different shapes, the modularity is total.
Whether you're looking to set massive compressions, millimetre-precise foot placements or tricky friction sections, every "Momodule" has been sculpted with a clear intention.
Why choose eXpression Holds Pro Models?
Wooden volumes have become essential in modern climbing (bouldering and lead). Here's what makes this series unique:
Clean, angular design: built to force movement and reading.
Premium finish: a high-quality grip that lasts without destroying climbers' skin.
Endless modularity: the volumes fit together and complement each other to build 3D structures on flat walls.
Approved at the highest level: tested and validated in intensive training by Romain Desgranges himself.
The story behind the name: the "Momodules"
Why the name? It's the nickname given to these modules, born from Romain's (aka "Momo") thinking on how to optimise training. The goal was to recreate the feel of international competition right in his own gym.
By adding these volumes to your walls, you give your climbers a "World Cup" experience where body positioning and balance matter as much as raw power.
The expert's view: Nic Oklobzija, US Level 5 routesetter
To understand the impact of this range on high-level setting, we asked Nic Oklobzija, a certified Level 5 routesetter in the USA:
"The Pro Models range has a great texture and it's well built. The interesting detail is that it matches wall angles.
You can easily bolt the volumes on as a big feature on slabs, or use one as a mantle at the top of a boulder to make it harder. It really adds depth to the wall, and being able to stack and combine them is super interesting.
A 90° cut on volumes isn't new, but this feeling of being able to genuinely mix the whole range together, that's real innovation."
